Itinerary Attractions

Wilpattu National Park

Sri Lanka’s largest and most serene leopard territory, famed for its “villus.”

Famed for its “villus,” Wilpattu spans 1,317 km² and offers a quieter alternative to Yala, with a 90% chance of leopard sightings on full-day safaris. Its signature villus—natural sand-rimmed lakes—attract elephants, sloth bears, and over 150 bird species. The park’s dense forest and low jeep traffic create a peaceful, immersive wildlife experience. Morning, afternoon, and overnight safaris are available, with options for luxury tented camps and low-angle jeeps for photographers.

Nocturnal Wildlife in Dambulla

A Loris night watch in Dambulla offers a rare, enchanting glimpse into Sri Lanka’s nocturnal wildlife, especially the elusive Grey Slender Loris, in a serene forest setting

The Loris night watch in Dambulla typically takes place at Sam Popham’s Arboretum, a dry-zone forest reserve founded in 1963. This guided night walk runs from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, offering an intimate, low-impact way to observe the Grey Slender Loris (Loris lydekkerianus)—a small, wide-eyed primate known for its slow, deliberate movements and haunting gaze.

Minneriya National Park

Home to “The Gathering”—the world’s largest congregation of wild Asian elephants.

From July to September, hundreds of elephants converge around the ancient Minneriya Tank, drawn by water and fresh grass during the dry season. Located near Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, the park also hosts spot deer, sambar deer, and 160+ bird species. Afternoon safaris (3–6 PM) offer the best chance to witness this awe-inspiring pectacle. Ethical, observational safaris here are a powerful alternative to captive elephant experiences.

Horton Plains National Park

Sri Lanka’s highland wilderness—where cloud forests meet dramatic cliff edges.

Perched at 2,100+ meters, Horton Plains offers a 9.5 km circular trek through montane grasslands, cloud forests, and past Baker’s Falls to the iconic World’s End—an 880-meter drop with panoramic views. Home to 750 plant species, 24 mammals (including leopards, sambar deer and red slender loris), and 87 bird species, it’s a UNESCO-listed biodiversity hotspot. Best explored early morning for clear views and wildlife activity.

Udawalawe National Park

Sri Lanka’s elephant stronghold—guaranteed sightings in a scenic, open landscape.

Spanning 308 km², Udawalawe is famed for its 500+ wild elephants, often seen bathing or grazing near the Walawe Reservoir. The park also hosts crocodiles, water buffalo, and 180+ bird species. Safaris are conducted via 4x4 jeeps, with morning and afternoon tours offering excellent visibility. The nearby Elephant Transit Home supports ethical conservation by rehabilitating orphaned calves.

Gal Oya Sanctuary

Birdwatching & Nature Walks: Ideal for spotting endemic and migratory species in a peaceful setting.

Gal Oya National Park is Sri Lanka’s only park offering boat safaris, where you can witness elephants swimming across islands in the country’s largest reservoir—Senanayake Samudraya.
